Dear NENA Neighbors,

Can you please add your voice to ours to save the DC Cook Administration Building?  We ask that you JOIN US AT THIS WEDNESDAY’S (1/22) CITY COUNCIL MEETING (6 pm) and SEND AN EMAIL TO COUNCIL.  Let us know if you can help!

Email Elgin Mayor & Council at citycouncil@cityofelgin.org

Send a quick email to the Mayor and City Council to let them know that you support:

  1. That the City Council nominate the David C Cook property as a local Elgin landmark through the Elgin Heritage Commission; and

  2. That the City consider the option to purchase the property as a last resort to prevent its demolition.

Talking points–pick one or all–or add your own!

  1. The DC Cook Building is the only historic building of its type remaining in Elgin.  It represents Elgin’s early economic importance in the United States and is the longest continuous employer in Elgin.

  2. The DC Cook Building is a beautiful and historic anchor to the neighborhood.  Its loss will cause a decline in local property values.

  3. The DC Cook Building and entire site would be well-suited to adaptive reuse as an incubator space (a distillery and hydroponic garden have expressed interest) or multi-family housing (two nationally recognized developers have expressed interest).

  4. It would be a permanent loss of opportunity if this building were demolished.

Thank You!
