The Elgin Fire Department will conduct “live burns” on September 28, 29 and 30 from 8 am to 5 pm at the Advocate Sherman Hospital’s Center Street Campus in the older 901 medical office building, which is slated to be torn down this fall. Fires will be contained in large drums in the building to simulate the conditions of a real fire in an office building to provide firefighters critical field experience.

  • Streets adjacent to campus will be closed intermittently – watch for electronic sign boards on Slade Avenue for more details starting September 25.
  • Fire engines will be parked on streets adjacent to campus and in Sherman’s parking lots.
  • Minimal smoke may be emitted from the building.
  • Residents within a 1-mile radius of campus will receive a Code Red call to inform them that training is taking place.
